Reaping the Benefits of Standard

By Paul Withers | 11/21/24 7:36 AM | Development - Leap / Volt | Added by Roberto Boccadoro

More than three years ago we began work on VoltScript. A little over a year ago we released our first Early Access code drop. There were certain core principles to which we developed. Two of these were a modern developer experience and adoption of standard development practices. Over recent weeks I received ample evidence of the benefits as improved and extended Archipelago, the build management engine of VoltScript.

HCL Leap: running a LotusScript agent

By Fabio Di Paola | 7/9/24 11:44 AM | Development - Leap / Volt | Added by Roberto Boccadoro

HCL Domino Leap is undoubtedly a tool with interesting potential that expands the capabilities of Notes and Domino but why not supplement it with additional functionality using for example some LotusScript code ? I made this consideration while developing an application where it would have been much better to have an agent manipulating a document for me to achieve the desired result. Checking the documentation I saw that indeed among the service options there is the option to run an agent inside the database and so I tried it.

HCL Domino LEAP is not HCL Domino Volt anymore and it is even better - Javi's Blog

By Javier Sanchez | 9/18/23 4:26 AM | Development - Leap / Volt | Added by Roberto Boccadoro

he “HCl Domino Volt“ brand passed away. Maybe to avoid the confsion with the new and fancy Volt Mx product, HCL had decided to rebranded to “HCL Domino Leap“. And it still getting more and more functionality. That point makes the product more “complete” and enlarge the number of use cases that you can resolve with HCL Domino Leap. At the beginning, HCL Domino Volt was a “NoCode” development product too focused (or limited) on data entry for not-too-complex applications. This meant that there were very few use cases that Volt was suited to. While it had a unique simplicity in creating responsive web forms, was a fact that the product lacked in data presentation options. It gradually improved and also increase in the integration options with our Domino applications. Not only from REST applications, but we would also have direct access to the data included in our Domino applications with the UniversalID or across a traditional Notes view.

The Importance of Reproducers

By Paul Withers | 7/4/22 4:57 AM | Development - Leap / Volt | Added by Roberto Boccadoro

So you think you’ve found a bug. What next? Create a support ticket, right? Wrong! First off, let’s point out something critical in that first line - “you think you’ve found a bug”. You may be a consumer for the code you think you’ve found a bug in. But you’re also a committer to other code. How many times has someone raised a problem where the code is actually working correctly? How many times has someone raised a problem but given insufficient evidence to know what’s going on, resulting in the famous “works for me”? And how many times was it PEBKAC (problem exists between keyboard and chair)?

Case insensitive deserialization

By Stephan Wissel | 6/8/22 3:58 AM | Development - Leap / Volt | Added by Roberto Boccadoro

Case insensitive deserialization - Growing up in Windows with BASIC you learn case doesn't matter, so Color is the same as COLOR or cOLOR when it comes to variable names. Same applies to @Formula or item names in Notes documents. On the other side, Linux, Java, JavaScript and JSON are very much case sensitive. This poses a challenge when deserializing (handcrafted) JSON files.

Life After XPages - The New Low Code Application Development Platform

By John Oldenburger | 10/27/20 4:05 AM | Development - Leap / Volt | Added by Roberto Boccadoro

Over the years I have written a number of blog posts about XPages as a development platform. After the release of Domino 10 and 11 and looking at the current developments and changes in the early program for Domino 12 we can now definitively conclude that XPages as a development platform is dead. Many organizations have already switched to modern development platforms in recent years. However there is new life after XPages thanks to the continuous developments of HCL with currently the most awesome and goundbreaking HCL Domino Volt, the new Low Code Application Development Platform!

HCL Volt – A new Leap for Domino!

By Karl-Henry Martinsson | 4/17/20 1:20 AM | Development - Leap / Volt | Added by Roberto Boccadoro

This Monday HCL released HCL Volt for Domino, their entry into the no-code/low-code market. This is a tool that allows the non-developers (a.k.a. Citizen Developers) at a company to build their own applications without having to write any code at all. Later the application can be enhanced with code, perhaps by someone in IT, but a power user, or even a regular user with some knowledge of Excel will quickly feel at home in Volt.

I am currently sitting in my hotel room near Amsterdam Schipol airport. I missed my flight in the morning because the Dutch train canceled several connections and the train I was in finally also had delays due to technical issues on the track. Another delay resulted in the need to change the train at Amsterdam Central. Anyway, I didn't make it in time, I was about 1 hour late. But why I am here?
