Upgrading OnTime in a container | Roberto Boccadoro

By Roberto Boccadoro | 10/25/24 5:32 AM | Infrastructure - Notes / Domino | Added by Roberto Boccadoro

Running Domino in a container is becoming more and more popular in these days. I assume the reader is familiar with the topic, I am not going to explain how to create and run a Domino container. If you want to know more about Domino containers watch the replay of the webinar that Martijn did for OpenNTF and read his presentation. OnTime is included in Domino, starting with Release 14, is a great tool and I encourage my readers to use it, the version included in Domino is free and very powerful. The issue is that Intravision, creates new releases of OnTime faster that HCL creates new releases of Domino, which is obviously understandable. For example the OnTime version included in Domino is 11.1, but the most recent is 11.5. Hence if you want to keep updated your environment, you need to upgrade OnTime. That is easy if you run Domino on Windows or Linux native, but what if you run Domino in a container ?

Engage 2024 – Some random reflections

By Roberto Boccadoro | 5/3/24 6:43 PM | Business - Events / People | Added by Oliver Busse

This time it was the Handelsbeurs, the old stock exchange. Is a Gothic building, really extraordinary. I did not take pictures, but my good friend Hogne Bo Pettersen did and on the Engage website you will find a link to his great job and pictures taken by others. He told me “it doesn’t happen every day that you can take a picture of a speaker with the background from Game of Thrones”. This should give you an idea of the location we were.

Sametime upgrade – A thing to be aware of

By Roberto Boccadoro | 1/2/24 10:18 AM | Infrastructure - Sametime | Added by Oliver Busse

Today I noticed that Sametime awareness was not working in Verse. Since it did until a few days ago I started to look what could be wrong. I tried to log in to Sametime and could not. Alas, time to look at the logs on the server; doing so I noticed a strange error in the community container log. A timeout when connecting to my LDAP server. I checked my Domino server, which is my LDAP and everything was fine. So I started a remote session with my Linux box where I have installed Sametime and all of a sudden weird errors appeared when I tried to change directory from / to /sametime. A look at the filesystem left me horrified. I had the disk full!!!

Domino upgrade to V14, a consideration

By Roberto Boccadoro | 12/22/23 9:36 AM | Infrastructure - Notes / Domino | Added by Oliver Busse

I was asked by a friend, who is mostly a developer and not a Domino Admin about upgrading his dev server from V12 to V14. He told me that he uninstalled V12 and installed V14 but then the Domino server would start in setup mode. The reason in simple, but if you were not part of the V14 beta program you may have missed it.

Upgrading Notes client to V12 on Terminal Server

By Roberto Boccadoro | 9/13/23 12:07 PM | Infrastructure - Notes / Domino | Added by Oliver Busse

I worked with my friend and lady geek, Marianna Tomasatti, at a customer to perform an upgrade of the Notes client to V12.0.2 FP1 on Terminal Server Windows 2019 Datacenter (multi-user installation) because the Notes clients had some issues.

Sametime monitoring dashboard on Docker

By Roberto Boccadoro | 4/3/23 6:25 AM | Infrastructure - Sametime | Added by Oliver Busse

Sametime 12.0.1 introduced a new feature, a monitoring dashboard based on Grafana. But on Docker it was not working, in various panels, for example those related to meetings it showed “no data”. Some of us reported this to HCL and they told that a fix would be provided for FP1.

Problem with Prometheus in Sametime monitoring dashboard

By Roberto Boccadoro | 2/8/23 11:26 AM | Infrastructure - Sametime | Added by Oliver Busse

I set up the monitoring dashboard in Sametime, using the provided JSON files; in case you don’t know how to do that, you enable it running this command docker-compose -f docker-compose.yml -f docker-compose-monitoring.yml up -d https://help.hcltechsw.com/sametime/1201/admin/Managing_dashboard.html Today I discovered that my Prometheus container kept crashing, and in the logs I found lines like these

Do you have any suggestions for OpenNTF ?

By Roberto Boccadoro | 10/28/22 12:23 PM | Business - Events / People | Added by Oliver Busse

AS probably you know OpenNTF has a Discord server, that everyone can join, where there are several “channels” (I know that the term is not correct) in which people can talk about specific topics. We have just added one, “#suggestion-box” where everyone is encouraged to go if they have any idea on what OpenNTF should do.

Updating Sametime 12 to FP1. Not all customizations are kept

By Roberto Boccadoro | 7/22/22 5:30 AM | Infrastructure - Sametime | Added by Oliver Busse

Upon suggestion from my friend Erik Schwalb of HCL, I upgraded to FP1 a Sametime12 server where I made some branding customization. Contrary to what I wrote in my previous post not ALL customizations are kept.

The OpenNTF Discord Server

By Roberto Boccadoro | 6/16/22 8:16 AM | Business - Events / People | Added by Matteo Bisi

A few months ago, OpenNTF started testing the waters of moving our Slack community over to Discord. The immediate impetus for this was the message-history limitation of our Slack account: on the free tier, we were losing old messages, but upgrading a community of our size to a paid tier would be cost-prohibitive. Once we started looking into using Discord, we found that it offered much more for us than just avoiding history loss. Discord quickly proved itself a much-better match for our community, with better community controls, better voice/video chat with screen sharing, and just generally a more community-focused approach. Joining Since it’s gone so smoothly in a “soft launch”, we think it’s ready to invite everyone more openly. To join our Discord community, visit: https://discord.gg/jmRHpDRnH4

“Official answers”

By Roberto Boccadoro | 7/8/21 9:52 AM | Business - Events / People | Added by Oliver Busse

I often get a request from a customer if I can give them an “official answer” say, to a request if a feature is available or not. For example recently I had such a request whether something that was doable in iNotes was doable also in Verse.

By Roberto Boccadoro | 5/4/21 1:16 PM | Infrastructure - Notes / Domino | Added by Oliver Busse

Now that this has been announced publicly at NCUG, btw congrats Hogne for setting up a very useful event, I can talk about DOMI. Me and other Ambassadors have tested it in the last weeks but we were under NDA so we couldn’t share our thoughts.

Follow up to the OpenNTF webinar on Domino administration best practices

By Roberto Boccadoro | 5/4/21 1:15 PM | Infrastructure - Notes / Domino | Added by Oliver Busse

During the webinar me and Heather ran out of time so we did not have time to talk about all the points that are highlighted in the slides. Here are some details on those point that we did not cover

By Roberto Boccadoro | 4/1/21 3:37 AM | Infrastructure - Sametime | Added by Oliver Busse

I updated the Sametime Proxy server 11.5 to IF1 for a customer, and the integration with iNotes broke. When a user tried to start a chat with another user he received an error

I will speak at CollabSphere 2020

By Roberto Boccadoro | 10/20/20 11:07 AM | Business - Events / People | Added by Oliver Busse

CollabSphere 2020 is another community event that had to turn from in-person to online due to Covid-19. The bad side of this you already know, the good side is that being online now you can attend all these events without the need to travel, is always nice to save money, and also attendance is free.

Do you know Collaboration Today ? | Roberto Boccadoro

If you are reading my blog, it means you are probably an IT professional working with, or interested in, HCL products. So I have a question for you: to keep up to date with what is happening in this space, what do you do ?

Sametime Meeting 11.5 installation on Docker

By Roberto Boccadoro | 9/4/20 5:28 AM | Infrastructure - Sametime | Added by Oliver Busse

Since in my test environment I do not have a proper domain name I had to tweak a bit some configuration settings in order to make the installation work; this can be useful if you want to setup a Meeting server inside your network using a domain like .local instead of your company real domain and hosts file instead of DNS.

Andrea Fontana 1964 – 2020

By Roberto Boccadoro | 8/17/20 3:20 AM | Business - Events / People | Added by Oliver Busse

This is a post I would have never wanted to write. As many of you know by now, our friend Andrea Fontana tragically passed away in an accident with his motorcycle last saturday, Aug 15.

Use a SSL certificate for the Sametime Proxy – a very easy way

By Roberto Boccadoro | 6/22/20 7:52 AM | Infrastructure - Notes / Domino | Added by John Oldenburger

By default when you install Sametime Proxy 11 it will use self signed certificates. My peer HCL Ambassador Ales Lichtenberg has written a blog post, here, about how to use a CA issued certificate. In his article he uses the .pem format for the certificates; I found there is another way to do this using the pfx format for certificates.

Sametime 11 integration with Jitsi – allow guest access

By Roberto Boccadoro | 4/21/20 2:37 AM | Infrastructure - Sametime | Added by Oliver Busse

In my previous post here I described how to set up a Jitsi server using the Domino directory as LDAP. That setup required all the users to authenticate before joining a room.

Sametime 11 integration with Jitsi. An easy solution to use video-conferencing now

By Roberto Boccadoro | 4/14/20 7:32 AM | Infrastructure - Sametime | Added by Oliver Busse

I have worked with my friend and fellow HCL Master Detlev Poettgen in setting up a solution to allow customers to use video-conferencing now, while we wait for Sametime Meetings to ship. We have used Jitsi, the same technology used by Sametime meeting, and set up a raw integration. Is obviously not a fully integrated solution, but it works pretty well.

Sametime 11 FP1 upgrade. A couple of things I found

By Roberto Boccadoro | 4/9/20 8:14 AM | Infrastructure - Sametime | Added by Oliver Busse

Sametime 11 FP1 has shipped, so me and my fellow Master and friend Matteo Bisi started upgrading our test servers immediately. We found a couple of thing you may want to be aware of in order to upgrade successfully.

Sametime 11 – What to do if person pictures don’t show in the web client

By Roberto Boccadoro | 2/13/20 12:49 PM | Infrastructure - Notes / Domino | Added by Oliver Busse

I wrote a post explaining what to do to have user pictures show in the Sametime classic client and in the Sametime web client, here . In a case, I found that the pictures did not show in the web client, so I opened a case with HCL Support.

Sametime 11 – Enabling person photo in the client

By Roberto Boccadoro | 1/31/20 9:23 AM | Infrastructure - Notes / Domino | Added by Oliver Busse

If you want to enable photos in the Sametime client, there is documentation available, unfortunately it all refers to versions 9 or 10, where it was told to use the Sametime Console. Now in version 11 the Sametime Console does not exist, so how do you do that ?

Sametime 11 – What to do if file transfer is not working

By Roberto Boccadoro | 1/28/20 10:39 AM | Infrastructure - Notes / Domino | Added by John Oldenburger

I stumbled into a problem at one of my customers. In the client, the icon for file transfer was greyed out and the one for sending a screenshot was missing. I opened a case with HCL and the suggestion was to enable the setting im.3000 in the file policies.user.xml. By default the current-value is 0.

Sametime 11. How to allow access to mobile clients

By Roberto Boccadoro | 1/28/20 9:16 AM | Infrastructure - Notes / Domino | Added by John Oldenburger

I installed a Sametime 11 server for a customer, everything was working, but the mobile clients could not access the server. Upon trying to login they saw this on their phones. I was not the only one with this problem, other 2 persons I know had the same issue with their installation.
